The Communication Officer will play a pivotal role in amplifying AfaLab's visibility and advancing its mission through impactful communication strategies. Job Title: Climate Justice Research & Policy Adviser

The Climate Justice Research and Policy Adviser (CRPA) is responsible for overseeing the development of African Futures Lab's strategy and action plan for its climate justice & reparations agenda. More specifically, the CRPA will be responsible for defining and coordinating a strategic research agenda that will feed the advocacy activities. Identifying key partners (civil society, media, etc.) and strategic advocacy areas in Africa and globally will be the central pillar of this position.
Core Responsibilities:
I) Strategy Development: Climate Justice and Reparations
Expand on AfaLab's work, by formulating a comprehensive climate reparations strategy and action plan to be deployed across Africa and on the global scale.
Develop and update work plans and provide recommendations for priority files and opportunities.
Draft policy papers by developing arguments in relation to the desired policy change.
II) Research and Analysis
Design, coordinate, and supervise in depth research reports that apply to the assigned policy areas.
Contribute to the publication process of research reports.
Monitor and analyse developments in external trends (policies, programs, research)
with actual or potential impact on matters related to climate justice and reparations
III) Influencing Public Debates on Climate Justice and Reparations
Utilize media production tools, such as podcasts and videos, to effectively disseminate knowledge.
Design and coordinate activities and events that feed into supporting and achieving the priorities and goals of the assigned policy area.
Represent AfaLab relevant academic, policy, and activist forums to build support and foster collaboration.
Draft and publish op-eds to engage broader audiences and influence public discourse.
Education: PhD / Master’s degree in Environmental Law or Environmental Studies
Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience in producing policy-oriented analysis and strategies.
Knowledge: Strong knowledge of how racial justice issues intersect with climate and environmental inequality.
Languages: Excellent command of English (C1 spoken and written) with a good command of French (writing and speaking proficiency required).
Organizational Competencies:
Effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Adapt to shifting priorities and organizational needs with strong self-organization skills
Ability to work independently in remote locations while collaborating in occasional team meetings.
Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse partners.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Workspace.
Travel Requirements: Willing to attend events and meetings, with travel up to 20%.
